A very enjoyable day was had by all at this years 59th Championship show. The show attracted 113 dogs for judge Bernard Catterall and 161 bitches for Ann Hagger, this years bitch judge. From Aberdeen to Devon, exhibitors came from all over the UK with two exhibitors even making the journey over from Ireland.
As the judging of all of the classes came to an end it was time for both Bernard and Ann to chose their main winners.
For this years best dog and gaining his first challenge certificate on the day, Bernard Catterall chose Susanna Zubair's 14 month old dog; Tesoro De Ria Vela for Thornywait (imp esp) with Bernard commenting,
"What a dog, absolutely impressive mid gold dog of great quality, soundness and type who never put a foot wrong and looked majestic driving around effortlessly. I could not take my eyes off him, it was no disappointment going over him as everything fitted into place, no exaggerations, just soundness. Most beautiful balanced head and expression with dark eyes and pigment, most of all quality, strong neck of correct length, copybook shoulder construction leading to good boned straight front and catlike feet, mature enough for such a young dog with level topline standing and moving. Well angulated rearquarters, very well conditioned and presented and made my day"
Reserve best dog and the Reserve Challenge Certificate going to Jane Wild & Frank Wilkinson's
Ch Gunhills Games Master JW ShCM, the judge commented,
"Excellently constructed mature pale dog, perfectly balanced, most beautiful head and kindly expression, clean well arched neck of good length flowing into good shoulder construction, straigth front and well padded feet. Carrying right amount of weight over well sprung ribs and short loin. Good rear angulation with excellent movement, immaculate presentation and handled".
Best Puppy Dog went to Mr & Mrs Wicklow's Gillbryan Trivelino. Bernard commented,
"I could gladly have taken this puppy home, he is just what i look for in a puppy of this age, outstanding 6 months with the most beautiful masculine puppy head, dark eye and pigment, correct length of neck into well laid shoulders, good straight bone with nice padded feet, short coupled, good turn of stifle, moved true and with style".
And finally Best veteran dog going to Carol Benson's 7 year old, Goldenquest Commando JW,
"Well balanced and soundly constructed, larger framed with kind masculine expression, excellent forehand construction from strong well arched neck. Good bone with tight catlike, dead level topline with correct tailset, short coupled and in good coat, good rear angulation and moved steadily retaining his topline.
Gaining her second Challenge Certificate, bitch judge, Ann Hagger chose, Peter and Pat Drury's Bencoe Lorretta as best bitch coming from the open class, the judge commented,
"Beautifully mature and balanced bitch, eyecatching outline and super construction, excellent shoulder layback and correct upper arm placement. Well defined quarters, ribs were well sprung, deep chest and level topline, pretty, gentle head with asoft expression. Very attentive to her handler and was shown free, oozes femininity and is full of quality, moved stylishly covering the ground.
In full cream coat with lots of feathering and looked a picture"
Reserve best bitch and her winning first Reserve Challenge Certificate going to Linsey and Irene Dunbar's 3 year old bitch Linirgor Mimi JW, the judge commented,
"Very feminine and her outline looked very pleasing. In excellent full coat, loved her head and expression, it was well shaped and all in proportion, gentle with a nicely shaped dark eye. Excellent reach of neck and layback of shoulders with correct upper arm that puts her feet exactly where they should be. Slightly longer in loin but her bend of stifle compliments her front angulations.
Very positive on the move covering the ground, this won her the class."
Best puppy bitch went Sue Pounds-Longhurst's 10 month old Mossburn Eva Mindfool with the judge commenting;
"Presented an easy on the eye picture of looking just right for her age, in excellent cream coat with lots of trimmings, lovely feminine head, kind eye and appealing expression, good reach of neck which flowed into her shoulders with enough upper arm, deep chest and clean outline, well bent stifle and her movement was effortless as she moved aroung the ring"
